Egypt are to play Ghana in the latest 2014 World Cup play-offs which will decide who goes to Brazil, according to Monday’s draw ceremony held at the CAF headquarters in Egypt.
Egypt will play Ghana in the first leg of the two-leg tie in Accra on 14 October and Egypt is to host Ghana on 18 November, but the location of the fixtures has yet to be decided due to security concerns in Egypt.
The aggregate winner after both legs will qualify for the finals in Brazil next year.
Tunisia will play Cameroon on 13 October and the return match will be played in Yaounde on 17 November.
Burkina Faso will meanwhile take on Algeria in Ouagadougou on 15 October with the return match set for 19 November. Côte d’Ivoire will play Senegal and Ethiopia will play Nigeria.
Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal and Tunisia are the teams competing for the five slots still available for the continent at the World Cup.
Diaa al-Sayyed, general trainer of the Egyptian national team, said in previous statements that he is not worried about any of the competition.
"The fact that the technical staff for Egypt's national team attended the ballot is a message to competitors that the Egyptian national team will insist on qualifying regardless of how strong the other competitors are."
"We have decided to meet up on Tuesday to set a programme for the decider matches and to study the competitor by watching their matches," he added.
The Pharaohs have done better in official matches against the Black Stars, having won four out of seven matches played against Ghana. Egypt lost two official matches to Ghana and tied once with them. This is the first time they compete in World Cup play-offs.
Egypt scored a total of 11 goals in those matches, compared to seven by Ghana.
