Members of faculty staff clubs at eight Egyptian universities have announced their intention to go on strike later this month to protest salary shortfalls.
Members of Cairo University’s faculty staff club said they preferred to meet with Higher Education Minister Hani Hilal to discuss the problem amicably. Staff clubs at other universities, however, said they had decided to boycott all meetings with the minister, describing them as "useless."
They plan to formally stage their strike between noon and 1 PM on 23 March, in what they describe as "a first step" towards increased protest actions until their demands are met.
