An explosive charge went off early on Monday on the Rafah-Arish road near al-Malta village following the passage of a group of army armored vehicles, a security source told the DPA news agency.
No injuries were reported.
The source added this is the second failed attempt of the same type within 24 hours. The earlier attempt was on Sunday and involved an explosive charge planted near Sadot Road in Rafah.
Neither explosion caused any material or human losses.
Meanwhile, security forces in North Sinai have arrested eight suspected militants including four Palestinians who were referred to the proper authorities.
Sinai has witnessed several attacks on the army and the police since the ouster of President Mohamed Morsy on July 3, killing dozens of people from both sides. The army recently announced Sinai a "closed military area" to crackdown on the militants who have been launching these attacks.
