Strong Egypt Party, April 6 reject breaking up pro-Morsy sit-ins by force

The Strong Egypt Party and the April 6 Youth Movement rejected Thursday the cabinet's decision to break up the Rabaa and al-Nahda squares sit-ins, stressing at the same time the need to keep protests peaceful to keep people safe.

The Strong Egypt Party called on protesters in Rabaa, Nahda, and Tahrir squares to renounce violence and announce that they do not have any weapons in their sit-ins.

The statement suggested that credible human rights organizations visited the sit-ins to make sure they are free of weapon as a step to resolve the current crisis.

The April 6 movement also rejected the cabinet's decision to task Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim with breaking up the sit-ins. The statement said that resorting to this security solution demonstrates failure and neglect on the part of the cabinet.

The cabinet and the interior minister will have to bear the responsibility for bloodshed in case the sit-in is dispersed by force, the statement added.

The movement criticized the Muslim Brotherhood, saying that they were responsible for pushing the country to the edge of the abyss and pushing their supporters into a zero-sum equation to achieve personal gains in disregard of national interests.
