Supporters of deposed President Mohamed Morsy clashed on Monday with security troops on Tayaran Street, near the Republican Guard House, while attempting to join the protest in front of the headquarters.
They hurled stones at the troops, who in turn fired bird shots, leaving dozens injured.
Clashes took place earlier Monday between the armed forces and Morsy supporters in front of the headquarters, leading to the death of at least 42 people including an armed forces officer and two policemen.
