Erian says he will die in Egypt as travel attempt denied

Deputy chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party Essam al-Erian has said he will remain in Egypt until his death. His comments followed news reports that he was attempting to travel to Jordan and that had been put on a travel ban.

“I lived in my country, Egypt, learned in its schools, worked in its hospitals, was jailed in its prisons for eight and a half years per Mubarak’s order, five of which were ordered by a military tribunal,” Erian wrote on his facebook page.

“I will remain in my country and will die on its soil if that is Allah’s will.”

A senior security source denied reports that Erian, along with Wasat Party deputy chief Essam Sultan, had attempted to travel to Jordan. The source confirmed that a Jordan-bound passengers list did not include the pair's name.

The Egyptian army is expected to issue a statement as the deadline it set for the resolution of the current political crisis expired Wednesday evening.

Massive protests have swept the country over the past days to demand early presidential elections and the removal of President Mohamed Morsy.

Security sources had told Al-Masry Al-Youm that Morsy, Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie, and Badie's deputy, Khairat al-Shater, had all been banned from travel.
