Banha, Kafr al-Sheikh, and Helwan universities have suspended 14 pro-Muslim Brotherhood students for disseminating leaflets without permission and posting banners welcoming new students. Another 14 students have been referred to interrogation for related reasons.
A Helwan University’s School of Engineering board decision referred twelve students to interrogation for holding a celebration of the new academic year. Students were surprised by the move–some interpreted it as an early attempt to eliminate them from the student association elections.
At Kafr al-Sheikh University’s Faculty of Arts, two students were suspended for one week and one month periods, without being permitted an inquiry, as punishment for circulating class schedules that featured MB students’ signatures.
Eleven Brotherhood students at Banha University’s Faculty of Engineering have been suspended for one month for campaigning activities.
Meanwhile, the president of Fayoum University issued a warning to students against political activism on university property without permission by the university’s board, stressing that the campus will not be transformed into a battleground for political parties.
