Central Department for Critical and Urgent Care head Khaled al-Khateeb has said that the total number of people injured in Cairo and Port Said Tuesday and Wednesday morning has reached 471.
Khateeb added that 16 were injured near Tahrir Square in Cairo, while 455 people were injured in Port Said by tear gas, birdshot and live ammunition.
Clashes in Port Said renewed on Tuesday outside the Port Said Security Directorate, which was marked by damage from protesters’ Molotovs. The violence broke out on Sunday after the Interior Ministry announced it would transfer defendants in the 2012 Port Said Stadium massacre to another prison in the Nile Delta region, ahead of a final ruling expected Saturday.
The defendants are accused of murdering 72 Ahly Club fans after a Premiere League match in February 2012.
Eyewitnesses said some protesters set fire to the National Security Authority branch office’s garage early Tuesday, burning several vehicles inside.
The NSA is the body that replaced the Hosni Mubarak-era State Security Investigation Service, a much-hated security apparatus that was dissolved in 2011 following the uprising that toppled the former president
State-run news agency MENA said that other demonstrators set fire to a Central Security Forces camp with Molotovs, causing all vehicles parked inside to go up in flames.
Five people were killed during clashes in Port Said on Sunday.
