Protesters at Cairo’s Tahrir Square reopened the Mugamma al-Tahrir building on Monday morning after closing it the previous day amid calls for civil disobedience to protest the Morsy government.
Hundreds poured into the major complex of government public services’ units, fearful of other closures.
The protesters who blocked entry to the Mugamma on Sunday were protesting Morsy’s call for parliamentary elections in April. Several leading opposition forces have said they would boycott the polls, while others have yet to announce their stance.
The protesters were also responding to a call for civil disobedience against Morsy, after over a week of civil disobedience in the canal city of Port Said spreading to other parts of Egypt.
Earlier this month, demonstrators closed the Mugamma for nearly five days to demand retribution for the killing of protesters, the removal of the government and the public prosecutor, and the formation of a panel to amend the current constitution.
