After Erdogan meeting, Morsy demands end to Israeli aggression

Egypt and Turkey agree that the international community must work to stop Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and that war will not lead to peace, President Mohamed Morsy said during a meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan Monday.

The two leaders met at the presidential palace in Heliopolis. During the meeting, Morsy and Erdogan signed and discussed multiple bilateral cooperation agreements in multiple fields, particularly related to education.

The Egyptian president said that both leaders also agreed to pursue more Turkish investment in Egypt during the coming months.

Morsy praised Turkey’s role in supporting Egypt during its transition, which he said reflected the importance of the relationship between Ankara and Cairo.

The meeting was also attended by Prime Minister Hesham Qandil — who visited Gaza on Friday — and other prominent members of his Cabinet, including the ministers of defense, foreign affairs and finance.

The leaders also discussed how to stop the bloodshed in Syria and reach a settlement based on ideas put forth by the initiative of four Middle Eastern nations — Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Turkey — formed to help resolve the conflict.
