Dozens of citizens with Master’s degrees and PhD’s demonstrated in front of the Cabinet Wednesday to demand jobs at universities and research centers.
Graduates from the Cairo, Alexandria, Damanhour, Ain Shams, and Tanta universities threatened to accept offers from foreign universities, “even if it is Tel Aviv [university],” as Hussein Ibrahim al-Shaer, who holds a Master’s of Law from the University of Alexandria, put it.
The demonstrators held banners saying, “After the revolution, there is no shutting down, we do not want science to die.”
Mohamed Ibrahim, who has a PhD in mental health from the University of Cairo, said that he received his degree in 2008, but was not appointed to a job until now.
Mahmoud Khairy, who has a PhD in law from the University of Alexandria, said that consecutive prime ministers have ignored their demands and broken the promises they had made scholars, starting from former Prime Minister Essam Sharaf and including Hesham Qandil.
