Nilesat stops broadcasting three Syrian channels

Responding to a draft resolution of Arab foreign ministers, the Egyptian company Nilesat stopped broadcasting three Syrian satellite channels on Wednesday.

The resolution asked to stop the broadcast of Syrian state and private channels on both Nilesat and Arabsat. The channels include Syrian TV, Syrian News and Al-Donia, a pro-government private channel.

However, a Nilesat source said the broadcast was stopped for contractual reasons.

In his speech at the opening of the new session of the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers in Cairo, President Mohamed Morsy called on the Syrian leaders to respond to the change that the Syrian people demand. “You won’t be around for long,” he said.

Nearly 20,000 people were killed in the 17-month old uprising against President Bashar al-Assad.
