Some 77,119 Egyptians living abroad cast their votes in the run-offs for the first phase of the parliamentary elections, the Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday. It said it received voting results on Tuesday morning.
Al-Masry Al-Youm obtained a list of the countries in which Egyptians voted. Saudi Arabia came top with 28,751 voters (37.3 percent of elegible voters living there), followed by Kuwait with 16,567 voters. The UAE came third with 8478 voters (11 percent of voters), followed by Qatar with 4513 voters (5.9 percent) and the US with 3926 voters (5.1 percent).
In Canada 2882 Egyptian expats voted (5.1 percent of those eligible). In Italy 1581 voters cast their ballots (2.1 percent), in Oman 1323 (1.7 percent), Australia 1223 (1.6 percent), Britain 1148 (1.5 percent), Bahrain 1066 (1.4 percent), France 801 (1 percent), Greece 695 (0.9 percent), Germany 425 (0.6 percent), the Netherlands 341 (0.4 percent).
In other countries, 3399 expatriates voted in total (4.4 percent of those eligible).
The deadline for expatriates to vote in the run-offs was Monday at 2 pm.
