Suez Canal Authority Chairman Mohab Mamish said dredgers working in the new Suez Canal project have lifted more than 163 million cubic meters of water-saturated sand, which is 65 percent of a targeted total of 250 million cubic meters.

He said 110 navigational marks and buoys are being placed in the new channel, including 35 buoys in the Deversoir and lakes area, where the American-Belgian dredgers are working, and others in the Km 60 to Km 90 area, where Emirati-Belgian dredgers are working.

He also said in a press statement on Monday that the “Sugar Island” dredger arrived to the lakes last Tuesday to join the American-Belgian working team, bringing the total number of dredges working on the project to 39.

Wagdi Zaki, the director of the dredging works, said 22 Emirati-Belgian dredges lifted 117 million cubic meters, 11 American-Belgian dredges lifted 37 million cubic meters, and five dredgers belonging to the Suez Canal Authority lifted eight million cubic meters.
