Around 500 primary school students in Al-Talbiyah village in Gharbiya province have been attending classes at a medical store of the village’s health unit after their school was demolished.
Parents of the students, who were enrolled at the only school in the village, say the small area of the store, no more than 60 meters square, has forced them to keep their children home due to safety and health concerns in such a crowded space that they say is unfit for learning. Parents say they have submitted many complaints to the Education Ministry.
Mohamed Badr, one of the parents, said he complained to education minister to save the students and he did not expect officials to leave hundreds of students under threat of infectious diseases.
Essam Emara, a villager, said the government should provide the students with another suitable place as the presence of high number of students in such place threaten their health.
Mohamed Magdy, another villager, said the students have been divided into morning and evening groups and distributed among three narrow spaces in the store.
Meanwhile, Ahmed al-Shennawy, head of Kafr al-Zayat city, said he submitted more than a memorandum to the Education Ministry and the governorate officials to include the school within plans in order to provide it with financial allocation to transfer the students to a new school.
