Prosecutors on Wednesday morning referred 44 people arrested during protests that began at the Balloon Theater and moved into Tahrir Square Tuesday night to the military prosecutor.
Police arrested dozens during the clashes between security forces and family members of revolution martyrs outside the theater in Agouza and later in Tahrir Square, referring them to the attorney general, who then handed the cases to the military.
The military prosecutor is tasked with determining the extent of property losses and injuries and the cause and perpetrators behind the violent events of Tuesday night and early Wednesday. According to security sources, authorities are pursuing a number of suspects who allegedly attacked the Balloon Theater and the Interior Ministry building downtown.
