A survey by the Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center has revealed that 43 percent of Egyptians do not know that Essam Sharaf is the prime minister, against 57 percent who do. A previous survey by the same center revealed that only 48 percent knew of Ahmed Nazif, the former prime minister.
The new survey also reveals views on the future president. Twenty-nine percent of the sample want him to be an honest man, 39 percent say he should be close to the people and attend to their problems, 17 percent say he should be conscientious, 8 percent say he should be firm, and 5 percent say he should be a respectable man.
The survey also reveals that 59 percent believe religion does not allow women to become president because they are too emotional, and that it would be against Egyptian customs and traditions.
Also according to the survey, 67 percent are in favor of keeping the peace treaty with Israel, 11 percent call for its cancellation, 20 percent are undecided, while 2 percent think that it should be amended.
On elections, 28 percent participated in the 2010 parliamentary elections, while 77 percent said they would participate in this year’s elections, 18 percent participated in the 2005 presidential elections, and 87 percent said they would participate in the next ones.
On political parties, 1 percent say they already belong to a party, while 12 percent say they intend to join a party in future.
