42 protesters detained on charges of attempting to overthrow regime

Public prosecutors in the cities of Assiut and Suez detained 42 protesters on charges of attempting to "overthrow the regime,” said a judicial source. The protesters were arrested in connection to “Anger” protests which began on Tuesday.

The sources said that Assiut’s public prosecutor ordered the detention of 22 protesters while ordering the release of 26 female protesters, which included the sister and wife of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Supreme Guide.

Security forces in Assiut charged the detainees with demonstrating without permission, rioting, inciting hostility towards the regime, and attempting to overthrow the regime.

Security authorities are questioning a number of detainees, especially those affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, to question their motives for protesting and rioting.

Meanwhile, Suez’s public prosecutor on Thursday detained 20 protesters pending investigation into charges of destroying public property, inciting the overthrow of the regime and attacking police officers.
