40 killed, 30 injured in collisions in Suez, Assiut

Twenty-four were killed and 25 others were injured in a collision Tuesday between a truck and a public transport bus at Ain Moussa power station in Suez.

Eleven are in a critical condition, four of whom were transferred to Cairo.

The bus collided with the truck which was cornered on the highway on its way to South Sinai, a security source said.

The victims were transferred to Suez hospitals, according to Mohamed Azizi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Suez.

Sixteen people were killed and five others injured in a collision between a microbus and a truck Monday evening on the eastern Assiut desert road. The truck was carrying stone bricks.

Security sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the cause of the accident might might be the deterioration of the road after flooding on Sunday caused cracks and breaks in the highway, which then filled with water.

Six ambulances transferred the victims to hospitals in Assiut, Undersecretary of the Health Ministry in Assiut Ahmed Abdel Hamid told Al-Masry Al-Youm. He added state of emergency in all hospitals of the province was announced to provide medical services and blood bags to the injured.

The prosecution was notified for investigations.
