4 MB members face life sentence, 6 others receive 15 years in prison for judge assassination attempt

Cairo Criminal Court found four Muslim Brotherhood members guilty of attempting to assassinate the head of Giza Criminal Court’s Chamber 14, Counselor Moataz Khafaji, and sentenced them to life imprisonment. Another six MB members convicted in the case received a 15-year sentence.

The public prosecution accused the convicted of leading a group established contrary to the provisions of law, calling to disrupt the constitution and laws, hindering public authorities from their duties, and disrupting social peace.

Court investigations proved that Osama Ibrahim, a fugitive, led the MB-affiliated group “Legitimacy Support Alliance”, instructing members to carry out anti-state operations.

The convicted Hassan Abd al-Ghaffar took over the group, and implemented the assassination attempt in May 2015, aiming to overthrow the current regime.
