Five armed elements were killed on Friday in an ongoing military operation in Sinai, an Egyptian security source said, bringing the total number of dead to 37 in the last two weeks.
The same source added that another 42 people have been injured since 30 June, state-owned news agency MENA reported Sunday.
The armed forces' operation in Sinai had so far yielded positive results, the security source claimed.
Since the removal of former president, Mohamed Morsy, on 3 July, several armed attacks by unknown assailants have targeted the army and the police in North Sinai.
Between 5 and 12 July, 12 civilians and security personnel were killed in Sinai in 27 attacks on army and security targets.
