31 arrested in Kafr al-Sheikh for planning to illegally enter Italy

Thirty-one young men were arrested on Monday in Motobas, Kafr al-Sheikh, for planning to illegally immigrate to Italy.

Major General Salah Okasha, director of Kafr El-Sheikh Security Department, was notified by Motobas police that a person had filed a complaint against suspicious activity in a neighbor’s house.  A team of officers led by Brigadier General Sayed Sultan, director of West Kafr El-Sheikh Criminal Investigation Department, raided the house, where they found 31 men preparing to illegally immigrate to Italy.

Investigations revealed that the young men came from six governorates around Egypt, including Gharbiya, Daqahlia, Minya, Sharqiya, Monufiya, Beheira and Alexandria. They gathered in Kafr El-Sheikh to try to cross the Mediterranean Sea to illegally enter into Italy.

The defendants confessed to having paid LE30,000 each to four brokers in exchange for help completing the voyage.

The prosecution is currently searching for the brokers and has ordered their immediate arrest.
