3,000 books promoting extremism seized from mosques

Endowments Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa has formed a task force to monitor activities inside mosques, such as religion lessons and reclusion, which are allowed only in certain mosques under the ministry’s supervision.

The ministry prohibited the collection of alms inside mosques by anyone other than authorized personnel from the ministry, calling on donors to make sure they ask for stamped receipts for the money they pay.

The ministry also warned of distributing material inside mosques that promote extremism, threatening legal action against mosques that violate these conditions.

The task force has to date seized 3,000 books and leaflets promoting Muslim Brotherhood and Jama'a Islamiya thought.
