30 km of railway tracks pilfered near Suez

Suez — According to sources from the National Railway Authority (NRA), a total of 30 km of railway tracks were recently stolen near the northern canal city of Suez.

Sources say that six km of tracks were stolen from the Cairo-Suez line; 12 km from the Suez-Ismailia line; four km from the Adabeya Station near Suez; and eight km from warehoused inventory.

Sources add that a 110-km cable was also pilfered, resulting in communication problems between trains and stations. They also note that, while the NRA has plans to lay a new meter-deep subterranean cable, this too could be subject to theft.
