Twenty-six political groups have said they will suspend protests and sit-ins nationwide during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which begins on Monday.
In a statement released on Sunday, the groups called for peaceful sit-ins to resume after Eid, which marks the end of Ramadan, in order to achieve the goals of the 25 January revolution.
Several revolutionary groups have staged a sit-in since 8 July in Cairo's Tahrir Square, demanding that figures from the former regime of Hosni Mubarak and security officials accused of murdering protesters be prosecuted more quickly.
Protesters unveiled plans for several events during Ramadan to press for the accomplishment of their demands. Among these proposed events is a pavilion hosting seminars on awareness and solidarity with families of the revolution's martyrs, the statement said.
The sit-in has secured important gains that gave impetus to the rest of the revolution's goals, and it emphasized people's ability to return to squares at any time, the statement continued.
The statement cited the government's decision to broadcast the trials of former Mubarak regime officials as one of the protests' victories.
