Health Ministry Under Secretary Sherif Makin reported 230 cases of food poisoning in the city of Al-Ibrahimiya in Sharqiya, of which 140 patients were taken to the Al-Ibrahimiya Hospital and the rest to the Abu Kabir, Deyarb Negm and Hehia hospitals.
Witnesses said they were poisoned after drinking contaminated water from unlicensed water supply stations.
However, Seddik Meselhy, the head of the Al-Ibrahimiya City Council, said that samples taken from the patients’ places of residence proved free of anything that could cause vomiting and diarrhea, and that medical teams are investigating for the real reasons they were poisoned.
