The ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) has decided to amend draft parliamentary laws so that two thirds of candidates are elected through the list-based candidacy system and a third through the single-winner system, state-owned papers said on Saturday.
The amendments were introduced after the SCAF held lengthy discussions with political powers and members of the Supreme Constitutional Court, said Al-Ahram.
The paper said that on Friday a legislative committee headed by the Minister of Justice approved the new system, and on Sunday the cabinet will discuss it.
Al-Gomhurriya, meanwhile, said that the electoral law will be amended so that 70 percent of parliamentary seats will be won through the list-based system and 30 percent will be won through the single-winner system.
The paper also said that the SCAF has decided to open nominations for the parliamentary elections on 28 and 29 September, instead of 26 September.
