Minister of Antiquities Ahmed Eissa said around 219 tourists of various nationalities visited the Egyptian Museum located in Tahrir on Sunday despite massive protests.
Another 585 tourists visited the Pyramids on the same day, he added.
Eissa said he is following up on the security situation in tourist areas through the operations room set up for all industry sectors and that he is continuously in touch with the tourism police and the Armed Forces to monitor developments. He says that the situation is calm in tourist areas.
If a state of unrest is reported in any tourist area, the necessary procedures will be adopted immediately to protect ancient artifacts and visitors, Eissa said.
Eissa emphasized that employees are working as usual in tourist spots, which are open during the normal, official working hours.
