President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has pardoned 203 young inmates who were handed final verdicts for protesting. Informed sources reported earlier that this decree would come within a matter of hours.
Five of these prisoners were not in the youth demographic.
Speaking to Al-Masry Al-Youm, the sources said the decision comes within the outcome and recommendations of the first youth conference, which was held in Sharm el-Sheikh city in late 2016.
The second group comprising the pardon will include around 203 cases, most of whom are students and others with health conditions, the sources added.
In February, sources said the committee working on the presidential pardons for detained youth, which was formed earlier by the presidency, was about to declare the second list to be submitted to presidency.
