20% increase in prices of emergency lights due to power outages

Prices of emergency lights and generators went up by 20 percent in April due to the demand from continuous power outages to ease the load on the grid, according to Tarek Abbas, vice chairman of the Cairo Chamber of Commerce’s Household Division.

Abbas expected prices to rise more in the summer if outages continue.

Emad Ragab, a dealer of electrical equipment, said prices of Chinese emergency lights went up from LE180 to LE210, prices of the German product rose from LE220 to LE260, and prices of the Japanese product rose from LE320 to LE350.

He added that street vendors sell small emergency lights that illuminate for three to four hours for LE30 and LE50.
