2 dead, 12 injured in accident on Cairo-Suez Road

A collision between a tourist bus and a lorry Tuesday morning on the Cairo-Suez Road has killed two and injured 12, according to security sources.

The injured–which include foreigners Joseph Robert from the UK and Minda Hester from Taiwan–were hospitalized at a Suez public hospital.

Traffic accidents rank second among causes of death in Egypt. A recently-issued government report revealed nearly 18 Egyptians were killed per day in traffic accidents during 2009. Poor road conditions, bad driving and driving while intoxicated are to blame for the trend, analysts say.
