Investigations into the killing of two children, Ryan and Mahmoud, whose bodies were found on Wednesday evening in a water channel in Damietta, revealed that their father had in fact killed them, al-Watan news website reported on Friday.
The victims’ father, Mahmoud Nazmy, confessed during interrogations on Friday that he threw them from the top of the Faraskur Bridge, which is 30 minutes away from Mitt Salsil City in Daqahliya, where the family resided.
A security source confirmed the father’s arrest at dawn on Friday, and that he confessed his crime during questioning at the police station.
The source added that the father’s criminal motives have not been yet revealed.
Thousands of residents of Mitt Salsil City participated Thursday in the funeral of the two children who were reported abducted on Tuesday in Daqahliya by the father.
According to the communication filed by the father on Tuesday, his two children Mahmoud, 4, and Rayan, 3, were abducted from him at an amusement park on the first day of Eid al-Adha.
The father claimed that a strange man stopped him and his children at the amusement park, claiming to be an old school mate.
He said he did not recognize the man, who continued speaking to him for some time. By the time their conversation ended, he claimed, the children had disappeared.
The father then promised a large reward to whoever could return his two sons, or report any information about their whereabouts or abductors.
