$2 billion UAE aid package to Egypt by the end of Crown Prince visit

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Defense Minister Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has held a series of meetings during his current visit to Egypt, meeting with interim President Adly Mansour, Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawy, and Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

A government official said that the Crown Prince will discuss UAE political and economic support with the Egyptian government.

A UAE integrated support package worth US$2 billion is expected to be announced by the end of the UAE delegation's visit to Egypt. The delegation also includes a number of Emirati ministers.

The UAE had previously announced an aid package for the Egyptian economy worth $3 billion, with $2 billion as a loan and $1 billion as a non-refundable grant.

The United Arab Emirates has become known for its strong support of the ouster of former President Mohamed Morsy and the Muslim Brotherhood.

The UAE will also announce funding for the establishment of 10 grain silos in different Egyptian governorates, in addition to establishing a vaccine production line to support pharmaceutical industries, said an Egyptian official.
