The Nasr City Misdemeanor Court on Saturday sentenced 19 students, who allegedly support the Muslim Brotherhood, to five years in prison and fined each LE20,000 over charges of involvement in riots and clashes with security last December near al-Azhar Sheikh's office.
One other student was acquitted, while another was sentenced to three years over the same incidents.
The suspects were found guilty of rioting and damaging public property.
Egyptian universities have been roiling with violence between police and students loyal to deposed president Mohamed Morsy since his ouster last July.
