1800 flats in 6th of October City stormed and occupied illegally

Organized groups on Monday stormed the National Project for Social Housing in 6th of October City and occupied 1800 flats there, some of which already belonged to beneficiaries of the project.

Those who stormed the buildings, reportedly "thugs", brought relatives from the Duweiqa shantytown area in Cairo and gave them the flats to live in.

They cordoned off the area and guarded it with firearms and guard dogs, refusing to leave despite the demands of the police.

They also formed a terminal for tuk-tuks to provide transport in and out of the area, as if carrying on with everyday life.
