164 Egyptians return from Libya, escaping turmoil

Two Tunisian planes arrived in Cairo Tuesday morning, carrying 164 Egyptians who had fled turmoil in Libya to Tunisia.

Libya has been in a civil war between opposition forces and forces loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi since the breakout of protests in February, which demand an end to Qadhafi’s 42-year rule.

Official sources at Cairo International Airport said the first plane arrived with 154 Egyptians on board, including six who had obtained their visas from the Egyptian Embassy in Tunisia after losing their passports during their escape.

The plane also carried 31 other passengers of different nationalities.

The same sources said the second plane carried 10 Egyptians and 152 other passengers, mostly Libyans, as part of a UN effort to evacuate foreigners and Libyan families from the restive country.
