Dr. Yehia al-Shazly, member of the National Committee of Hepatic Viruses, said 16,000 Hepatitis C patients were healed after four weeks of treatment with the American drug Sovaldi.
“The cure rate is 90 percent, but we aim for 100 percent,” he said, adding that new drugs, such as Harvoni and Viekira, will help them achieve that rate.
He explained that the new drugs are pills that a patient does not need additional drugs with, unlike Sovaldi, which is taken with Interferon and Ribavirin.
He said conditions for disbursing Sovaldi have been facilitated. “A patient no longer has to present a liver sample or a scan,” he added.
