The Court of Cassation, headed by Judge Anas Ali Abdallah, accepted the appeal of 150 defendants sentenced to death over their involvement in the killing of eleven policemen in Kerdasa City in August 2013 during the upheaval that followed the ouster of President Mohamed Morsi.
The defendants will be retried on charges of assembling, premeditated murder, attempted murder, possessing unlicensed weapons including heavy weapons, killing eleven policemen from Kerdasa Polcie Station and dismembering their bodies and killing two other civilians.
Giza Criminal Court sentenced the defendants to death in February 2015.
The ruling of a mass death sentence was condemned by international human rights organizations, the United States and the European Union.
