120 sailors arrive Egypt after Libya hostage-taking

One-hundred and twenty Egyptian sailors who had been briefly held hostage in Libya arrived at the Salloum border crossing on Friday, having been released with the help of the Libyan authorities.

According to MENA, Libyan rebels recently took nearly 400 Egyptian sailors, who were working in a boat at the coastal city Zewara (130 km west of Tripoli), as hostages.

MENA didn’t give further details, but said that the rebels agreed to release 120 sailors and that negotiations are now taking place for the release of the others.

Since the fall of Libya's former dictator Muammar Qadhafi, the transitional government has faced tough challenges in controlling areas of the country that are relatively autonomous.
