Sisi stresses Egypt’s support for Bahrain, may attend US-Arab Islamic summit in Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Okaz newspaper has reported that Riyadh invited Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and leaders of the Islamic Military Alliance to Fight Terrorism to attend the Islamic-US summit.

The summit is expected to tackle ‘hatred’ issues, the newspaper said, adding that US President Donald Trump is expected to confirm during the summit that the US is not against Islam.

An informed source said Sisi already received an invitation to take part in the summit, however, it has not yet been decided if Sisi will attend or send a high-level delegation.

Meanwhile, Sisi stressed Egypt’s support for Bahrain, as well as its commitment to preserving the island nation’s security and that of all other gulf countries, which Sisi said represents a priority for Egypt. These remarks came as the Egyptian president concluded his visit to Bahrain.

During a meeting with Bahraini head of parliament Ahmed bin Ibrahim al-Mulla in Manama, Sisi highlighted the closeness of Egyptian-Bahraini ties and expressed his appreciation of Bahrain’s supportive stances towards Egypt. He also indicated intentions to boost bilateral ties.

The Egyptian president also met with Bahraini Culture Minister Sheikha May bint Mohamed al-Khalifa. They both highlighted the strong historic ties that exist between Egypt and Bahrain.
