An online campaign entitled ‘What If’ has recently been launched by Egyptian graphic designer Amr Eid in an effort to shed light on Egypt’s landmarks in an innovative, artistic manner.
The 23-year-old artist pushed the envelope by coming up with imaginative graphics depicting several Egyptian landmarks placed in different Western countries.
As the idea was met with great enthusiasm, Eid decided to stretch his imagination even further by sketching internationally famous landmarks onto Egyptian streets.
“The idea popped into my head when I was visiting the Baron Empain Palace and thought 'What if this desert surrounding the place was replaced by crystal clear water?',” Eid told Egypt Independent.

“So I posted a picture of my idea on social media platforms and the positive feedback I received back then encouraged me to evolve the idea into a more profound, purposeful campaign.”
The Baron Empain Palace is a historic mansion located in Heliopolis, known for its distinctive, Indian-inspired architecture.
The intriguing artwork aims to highlight that if Egypt’s landmarks were placed in Western countries, they would not be any less impressive than other globally famous landmarks. Additionally, it demonstrates how Egypt houses a plethora of outstanding neighborhoods and governorates, including, al-Hussein, Korba, downtown, Alexandria and Aswan.

“I want to display how our authentic, artistic touch on monuments, ancient buildings and statues would, undoubtedly, make a statement if more attention is paid to them by the government,” Eid explained.
Based on the campaign’s remarkable success, plans are underway to launch a second part of the campaign adopting the same aesthetic perspective, yet intertwining new features, representing Egyptian culture and traditions.
