Cairo Criminal Court decided on Thursday to postpone its verdict on Habib al-Adly, the former interior minister, in the LE5 million profiteering and money laundering case to April.
The law allows courts to postpone verdicts for three sessions.
Adly’s lawyer, Essam al-Battawy, said the postponement was because Adly was moved from Tora prison to a private hospital to undergo surgery.
Battawy had said before that Giza Criminal Court sentenced Adly to 12 years imprisonment in May 2011, fined him LE4.853 million, in addition to another equivalent amount, and LE9.026 million, but the Court of Cassation overturned that ruling.
Adly is accused of abusing his post as interior minister from October 2010 until February 2011 by assigning his subordinates, the management of the Al-Nakhil Cooperative Association that builds housing units for police officers, and the police academy to sell land he owns in the association’s project at the highest price.
Investigation revealed that the land was sold to a contractor that carries out projects for the Interior Ministry for LE4.85 million, which Adly deposited in the Misr Bank Dokki branch.
