Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hossam Moghazy said a trilateral three-day meeting between the ministers of water resources of Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, as well as a number of experts from the three countries would be held in Cairo on June 15, in order to present the technical offer proposed by two consultancies regarding the Renaissance Dam, before adopting it.
In a press statement on Wednesday, Moghazy said that the event comes within the framework of the Declaration of Principles signed between the three countries in Khartoum.
President Abdel Fattah Sisi said that Egypt is sponsoring the navigation line project of Lake Victoria – Alexandria, on which the Ministry of Irrigation has been conducting feasibility studies for over a year. The final report of the project will be submitted to the African Summit scheduled in South Africa, according to Moghazy. After the project is approved, further studies should be conducted, he said.
A number of donors have expressed their willingness to finance the study, such as the World Bank and the African Development Bank. The current study, costing US$10 million, is expected to take a year and a half.
