Hany Mehanna, spokesperson for the Social Solidarity Ministry, said on Tuesday that the ministry will ban the Muslim Brotherhood association as a civil society organisation within hours after the legal period for challenging the court ruling ordering the association's dissolution has expired.
The ban comes in agreement with a Cairo court order issued in September.
Minister of Social Solidarity Ahmed al-Boraie said in statements that the ministry has been waiting for a court order to dissolve the association. The cabinet has formed a committee with members from the ministries of social solidarity, interior, local development, justice as well as members from the National Security Apparatus to implement the order.
On 23 September, a Cairo Court ordered the dissolution of the Muslim Brotherhood association and the confiscation of its properties, in addition to banning its activities.
