Secretary general: New Arab League charter moves entity to 21st Century

The Arab League's new charter propels the league into the 21st Century, said Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil al-Araby.

Large-scale Arab economic projects should be implemented, Araby added. Renewable energy projects had been put forward during the previous Arab summit, but were not carried out.

A project put forward by Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on food security, as well as other projects on transport and linking Arab countries to each other are exciting prospects and Araby expressed hope that such projects would be put into action.

Qatar's Emir was invited to the summit, but the size of Qatar's representation is as yet unknown, Araby told Al-Nahar Al-Youm Channel Tuesday evening. Qatar has been interfering with the affairs of other Arab countries, he added.

"I heard from some foreign countries that Qatar was interfering with Syria, which is not required as we should abstain from being implicated in such crises," Araby added.
