Qatar’s foreign minister: We do not support the Muslim Brotherhood

Qatar's Foreign Minister Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah said his country does not support the Muslim Brotherhood. “Accusing President Mohamed Morsy of collaborating with Qatar is a disaster,” he told the newspaper Al-Hayat.

“Is dealing with sisterly Arab countries collaboration?” he asked.

The minister denied objection to President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. “Doha has been supporting Egypt since the 25 January revolution and before the Muslim Brotherhood came to power,” he said. “And we remain committed to our agreements with Egypt.”

He said Qatar’s deposits are still supporting the Egyptian economy, adding that Qatar sent President Sisi five giant shipments of gas as a gift to the Egyptian people.

He accused the Egyptian media of fomenting a feud with Qatar.

He declined to clarify the hosting of the leaders of the Brotherhood in Doha. “They can come and go as they like,” he said.

He also denied using the Al Jazeera channel as a means to put pressure on Arab countries. “The channel has an independent management,” he said. “Whoever does not like what he watches on it can always switch channels.”
