The number of pro-army protesters in Tahrir Square has grown throughout the afternoon Friday.
Tens of thousands have responded to a call from Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, urging protests to mandate the armed forces to confront "violence and potential terrorism."
MENA reported that a number of protesters fainted due to overcrowding and high tempratures during the day.
Ambulances were stationed around the square at Simon Bolivar Square and Omar Makram Mosque. Armed forces helicopters sporadically passed over head.
Protesters could be heard chanting "The army and the people are one hand" and "Come on Sisi, cleanse Sisi!"
Protesters gathered at Mostafa Mahmoud Mosque in Mohandeseen in preparation for a march to Tahrir Square.
