Politician: Govt to respond to political forces proposals, hold elections soon

President of the Reform and Development Party Mohamed Esmat al-Sadat expects the government to respond to the proposals of political forces and would hold elections as soon as possible in line with the the Supreme Constitutional Court's recommendations.

Changing the electoral system will be difficult to achieve because it will change all the political equation, Sadat said Thursday.

The existence of a parliament has become necessary, he said, especially with the signing of agreements related to the Nile, discussing the general budget, the participation of the armed forces in military operations amid the absence of the parliament's consent, establishing mega projects, the reports of the Auditing Agency about many institutions and the issuance of laws that need to be revised by the parliament.
