Party chief says Egypt has no reason to enter war in Yemen

Medhat al-Zahed, acting chief of the Socialist Popular Alliance Party (SPAP), said no reasons exist for Egypt to get involved in a war in Yemen, as entering a war with ground troops should take place in accordance with the constitution.

“Moreover, what is happening in Yemen is a civil war. Yemen has not be raided by another country’s military. Thus, I rule out that Egypt should enter a ground war in Yemen,” Zahed said on Sunday during a talk show aired on the privately-owned TV channel TEN.

“Houthis are good at guerrilla warfare,” Zahed said. “Engaging in a land war in Yemen will be like entering a minefield. Our responsibility as Arab countries is to protect other Arab countries from foreign intervention. The Egyptian army should not be depleted in a civil war.”
