One-year imprisonment for 112 defendants in Mouski case

On Monday, the Mouski Misdemeanor Court sentenced 112 defendants, including 50 who were released, to one year in prison for involvement in the Mouski events that took place on the third anniversary of the 25 January revolution.

The defendants were convicted of breaching the protest law, inciting violence, destroying public and private property and assaulting police.

Since Morsy's ouster, mass trials have been criticized by human rights groups and the international community as they argue ensuring the innocence of the large number participants in one trial is extremely challenging, which raises the possibility that the verdicts could be politically motivated.
